Health status: an individual's or population's overall health
Self-assessed health status: an overall measure of a population's health, based on a person's own perceptions of their health
Life expectancy: an indication of how long a person can expect to live
Mortality: the number of deaths caused by a particular disease, illness or other environmental factors
Morbidity: refers to ill-health in an individual and the levels of ill-health in a population or group
Rates of hospitalisation: the number of patients who experience an episode of admittedpatientcare
Psychological distress: refers to an individual's overall level of psychological strain or pain and interferes with their ability to perform daily activities
Core activity limitation: refers to needingassistance with self-care, mobility and/or communication
Disability: An impairment of a body structure or function that results in a limitation in activities or a restriction in participation
Burden of disease: a measure of the impact of disease and injury. Specifically, it measures the gap between the current health status and the ideal situation where everyone lives to an old age free of disease or disability measured by DALY
DALYs (disability adjusted life years): a measure of the burden of disease. One DALY equals one year of healthy life lost due to pre-mature death and time lived with illness, disease or injury
YLL (years of life lost): the fatal burden of disease of a population, defined as years of life lost due to death
YLD (years of life lost due to disability): the non-fatal component of the disease burden; a measurement of the healthy years lost due to disease, illness or injury
Incidence: the number or rate of new cases of a particular condition during a specific time
Prevalence: the number or proportion of cases of a particular disease or condition present in a population at a given time
