  • Bible is not one book, but a series of books written by many authors over thousands of years.
  • At different periods, the books of the Bible were written down by writers inspired by the Holy Spirit, so that “with God acting in them and through them, they, as true authors, consigned to writing everything and only those things which God wanted…”
  • Christians and Jews believe that the Bible is the basic religious text because it contains the story of God’s self-disclosure to humanity.
  • To interpret Scripture correctly, the reader must be attentive to what the human authors truly wanted to affirm, and to what God wanted to reveal to us by their words.
  • In order to discover the sacred author's' intention, the reader must take into account the conditions of their time and culture, the literary genres in use at that time, and the modes of feeling, speaking and narrating then current.
  • How to Interpret Scripture:

Be attentive "to the content of the whole Scripture" (view it with Jesus as the center of all teachings )
Read the Scripture within "the living Tradition of the whole Church"- what teachings can we take away

Be attentive to the analogy of faith- be faithful and believe that you will receive messages
