• Vanguard Party = a leninist concept of a party that restricts it's membership to workers and intellectuals to achieve high level commitment to the cause
• The CCP encouraged a sense of participation by creating ''mass autonomous organistaion'' and trade unions
• Urban neighbourhood commitees solve issues and disputes under watch of Party Cadres
• The danwei = sat at the bottom of work unit and was a residents comitee that controlled allocation of resources and permits for marriage
• Iron Rice Bowl = guarantee of employment and income for life for all party and government officials
• Democratic Centralism = party members express opinions and participate in debate but ultimate decision is made by Politburo
• Debate occured within the party but was limited by the spread of Mao thought and had very narrow limits. People were told debate was required for feudal transition
