active transport

• root hair cells take in minerals and water
• in root hair cells, the concentration of minerals outside is usually lower than inside the cell
• due to a higher concentration of minerals inside the root hair cell as opposed to outside, the minerals cannot diffuse from the soil to the cell
• active transport allows the plant to absorb minerals from a very dilute solution, against a concentration gradient
• active transport requires energy
• we need active transport to stop us from starving
• when there is a higher concentration of glucose and amino acids in the gut they diffuse naturally into the gut. however, when there is a lower concentration, they must be transferred into the blood through active transport
