Replication

    Cards (5)

    • what do viruses use to replicate themselves?
      host cells
    • what do viruses use their attachment proteins to do?
To bind to complementary receptor proteins on the surface of host cells
    • What do different viruses have?
different attachment proteins and therefore require different receptor proteins on host cells
      • as a result, some viruses can only infect ONE TYPE of cell
      • however some viruses can infect lots of different cells
    • what do cells NOT undergo and why/?
they do not undergo cell division because they are not alive
    • what do viruses do instead of cell division?
they inject their DNA or RNA into the host cell- this hijacked cell then uses its own machinary (eg ribosomes) to replicate the viral particles
