What IS the transpiration stream?
Movement of
water
and minerals from roots, through the
xylem
and out of the leaves.
What is transpiration caused by?
Transpiration is caused by the
evaporation
& diffusion of
water
from a plant's surface.
Where does most transpiration happen?
Leaves
What does evaporation create for the plant?
a slight shortage of
water
in the leaf, and so more water is drawn up from the rest of the plant through the
xylem vessels
to replace it.
What does more water drawing from the roots lead to?
a constant
transpiration
stream of
water
through the plant.
Is there more water
INSIDE
or
OUTSIDE
the plant than the air outside?
Inside.
The water
escapes
from the leaves through the stomata by diffusion.
