ratio scale states the number of times the real world has been made smaller to fit on the map
1:50,000= 1cm on the map represents 50,000cm in reality
There are two different ratio scales for different maps, this differs how you calculate the real distance in reality (Topographic Map= 1:50,000 & Orthophoto map= 1:10,000)
