    Resisting conformity: social support breaks the unanimity of the majority - raises the possibility that there are other ways of acting/thinking

  • External Locus of Control
    People with a strong external LoC believe that what happens to them is determined by external factors e.g. luck. They take less personal responsibility for their actions and are more likely to accept others' influences, more susceptible to social influence
  • Internal Locus of Control
    People with a strong internal LoC believe what happens to them is a result of their own ability and effort. They are more confident and have less need for social approval, better resist social influence
