every care setting is required by law to have a fire evacuation plan
fire evacuation plans will be different in a hospital or nursing home to those of a residential home or infant school
this is due to some individuals requiring more support than others
those with poor mobility who may use wheelchairs, and others who may have dementia or deafness and so many not realise and so many not realise what is happening
these individuals may require personal emergency evacuation plans (PEEPs) to be in place
children will have to be reassured and kept calm and supervised
care settings should have regular fire drills, and fire alarm should be tested regularly to check that they are working and can be heard throughout building
fire exits and escape routes should be kept clear
some staff may be given specific roles to assist with evacuation, either as fire marshals or to support individuals who need assistance to leave building
