HUMAN IMPACT

Cards (15)

  • Finite resources are resources that will eventually run out.
  • Population growth : too many people using limited resources
  • Over consumption : Industrialized societies are using more resources per person from our planet that people from poor nations.
  • Advancing Technologies : humans introduce technology without knowing how it will influence the environment.
  • Direct Harvesting : a large loss of rainforest and it's biodiversity.
  • Pollution : The introduction of harmful substances into the environment, especially in large amounts. (Can influence air, water, and land.)
  • Atmospheric Changes : Greenhouse gases due to the burning of fossil fuels and depletion of our ozone layer.
  • Endangered Species : species are threatened to extinction due to habitat destruction.
  • Invasive Species : Importing foreign organisms cause problems for native organisms.
  • Invasive Species are also known as exotic species.
  • THREE MAJOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS INCLUDE:
    1. Global Warming
    2. Acid Precipitation
    3. Ozone Depletion
  • Acid Precipitation is caused by sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide pollution from the burning of fossil fuels. They combine with water vapor in the atmosphere and fall back to earth as acid rain.
  • Global Warming is the burning of fossil fuels and other pollution that increases the amount of CO2 in the air. (Increases Earth's temperature)
  • The Ozone is another form of oxygen.
  • The Ozone decreases the amount of solar radiation that reached the earth from the sun (UV)
