• the novel has several narrators as stevenson wanted to make a mystery with the central question being who is hyde and what is his connection to jekyll so to construct the mystery jekyll does not narrate untill the end of the book to give the audience the satisfaction of the case being resolved
• the novel is structure around the theme of repression. the novels most striking images are connected through this idea such as locked doors and curtained windows of jekylls house. the image of jekyll turing into hyde is a metaphor for what happens when the subconscious mind (id) is revealed and overpowers the superego seen through carews murder being a chapter and a significant event
• the narritave is about unpeeling the of the layers that hide the repressed desitres in jekyll.
• the novel is written in episoltary form- in tye style of letters and dirares which makes the novel fell more immersive and more realistic as a scientific journal
