Equilibrium of a Particle

Cards (5)

  • What is static equilibrium, and which of Newton’s Laws does this relate to?
If an object is at rest, it is in static equilibrium. This means that the resultant force acting on the object must be zero (Newton's First Law).
  • Which technique is used to assess equilibrium?
To accurately assess equilibrium, we must account for all forces acting on the object. To do this we "isolate" the object and draw only the forces acting directly on the object in a Free Body Diagram.
  • What does concurrent mean?

Existing, happening, or done at the same time
  • What does coplanar mean?

    In the same place
  • What does collinear mean?
Lying in the same straight line
