    • tito partly stood up to stalin and ussr successfully due to his popularity
    • tito didn't like stalinism as it was too centralised and wanted to consolidate yugolsav freedom
    • Yugoslavia was expelled from cominform to try and break tito
    • had positive economic relations with the west and public support
    • Marist so workers controlled industry and decentralised other than a light reign on nationalities
    • relations improved under Khrushchev and were free from soviet control until titos death in 1980
