  • Failure to function adequately is when somebody cannot complete and behave normally in everyday situations. Such as whether they can hold down a job or look after themselves. They usually experience distress. For example, schizophrenia is when someone has hallucinations and experience distress and can be unpredictable around others, making it difficult to hold down a job.
  • Failure to Function Adequately: Characteristics
    Rosenham and Seligman suggested the following characteristics for someone who fails to function adequately:
    • Severe distress
    • Violates social/moral standards
    • Maladaptiveness
    • Unpredictability
    • Irrationaility
    • Doesn't conform to standard interpersonal rules
    • Causes observer discomfort
