    - Plath suffers the plague of inadequacy as a mother in the poem 'Child'
    -she wrote this poem just two weeks before her suicide, though her uncondtional love for her chlidren still shines through here
  • Para 1 -Plath believes the most beautiful thing her life was..
    most definetly her children;
    "your clear eye, is one absolutely beautiful thing"
    This way the poem begins very optimistic which continues for the first three verses.
  • Para1 she discussed how she wants the absolute best life for her children....

    She longs for a perfect and traditional childhood for them..
    "i want to fill it with colors and ducks. The zoo of the new"

    "in which images should be Grand and classical" something in which she missed out in her own life
  • However plath feels as though she will hold them back from living the life she yearns for them. Afraid that she will inflict her own problems upon her children, thus ruining their childhood
  • "Not this troublous wringing of hands, this dark ceiling without a star"
    The bleak final verse may also be a hint to her suicidal thoughts at that time. As mentioned before she only ended her life two weeks after she wrote this poem
  • Concluding
    after scrutinizing this poem, it is evident that plath never really felt confident in her role as a mother. once again bringing the theme of inadequacy as a mother to fore.
