    • In document 3, we’re taking the example of “The pursuit of happiness” by Chris Garden. According to Cullen the American Dream is a term that “mean that in the United States anything is possible if you want it badly enough”.
  • The theme of equality is present through the opening scene in the movie, which depicts citizens from different ethnical groups and different social classes on the streets of San Francisco. It intends to visualize the metaphor of the “melting pot” used to describe the USA as a country which heterogeneous society becomes more homogeneous.
  • Nothing symbolizes the American Dream more than owning your own house. Home ownership is associated with concepts such as independence and freedom. The big mansion symbolizes economic stability, safety and a happy family.  This is the stereotypical image of the Dream it includes being happily married, having children and at least one pet in a cozy house located in a good neighborhood.
  • The film’s international success has bolstered the narrative of the American Dream, influencing political ideologies globally.
