pulmonary vein - connected to the left atrium and brings oxygenated blood back from the lungs
Vena Cava - connected to the right atrium and brings deoxygenated blood back from the tissues of the body
the atrium is where the blood first enters from the veins on each side
Atrioventricular valves - found between the atrium and the ventricle, allow pressure to build in the ventricles as they shut when when ventricular pressure exceeds atrial pressure
ventricles - pump blood out of the heart into the arteries
semilunar valves - found in the aorta and pulmonary artery, close when the pressure in the vessels exceeds that in the ventricle
pulmonary artery - connected to the right ventricle carrying deoxygenated blood to the lungs where its oxygen is replenished
aorta - an artery that is connected to the left ventricle and carries oxygenated blood to all parts of the body except the lungs
the pulmonary vein is the only vein to carry oxygenated blood
the heart muscles receive oxygen through coronary arteries which branch off the aorta
