    • Importance (internment camps): many Ukranians felt betrayed by this, many of them wanted to enlist to fight to show their devotion to Canada. Germany also copied many tactics used in our camps for theirs in WW2
  • Enemy alien: Enemy aliens include Germans, Italians, and Austria-Hungarians
    • Through the War Measures Act, Canada issued an order for registration and in certain cases, internment of individuals who were considered to be of “enemy nationality”
    • Austria-Hungary was an enemy so many Ukranians and East European immigrants were Austrian “enemy aliens” by the government
