PARTS OF A CIRCLE

    Cards (22)

    • A circle is a set of all points in a plane which are given point on the plane
    • The fixed point of a circle is the center, and r is the radius
    • A line segment is a part of the straight line that is bounded by two distinct points
    • Radii is a plural name for radius
    • Tangent is a line touching a curve at one point only
    • Chords are lines joining any two points on a circle
    • Secant is a line intersecting a curve at more than one point
    • Diameter is a straight line passing through the centre of a circle or sphere and having its endpoints on the circumference.
    • Arc is a portion of a circle between two radii or diameters
    • Circumference is the distance around the edge of a circle or sphere
    • Central angle is an angle whose vertex lies at the center of a circle, with sides that lie along the circle's perimeter
    • Inscribed angle is an angle whose vertex lies inside a circle and whose sides lie along chords that meet at the vertex
    • A major arc is greater than half the circumference.
    • A minor arc is less than half the circumference.
    • Sector is a section of the circle created by two radii.
    • A major sector has a central angle which is more than 180°
    • A minor sector has a central angle which is less than 180°
    • Semi circle : Half of a circle. Could be considered a sector where the circle has be split by the diameter.
    • Quadrant : A quarter of a circle, created by two perpendicular radii.
    • Segment :
A section of the circle created by a chord.
    • Major segment – a segment where the arc is greater than half the circumference.
    • Minor segment – a segment where the arc is less than half the circumference.
