  • Sender (the encoder) 

    the originator of communication, encodes and transmits a message
  • Receiver (the decoder) 

    the recipient of communication who decodes the message
  • Encoding
    is the process of preparing a message for transmission by putting it into some form or code. In work settings, this code is usually the shared verbal language, but it might also consist of some common nonverbal code, or “body language.”

    is the vehicle through which a message flows from sender to receiver

    is the process of translating a message so that it can be understood

    an acknowledgment that a message has been received and understood
