• most common industrial relations disputes - pay and conditions, discrimination, redundancy, promotion and demarcation
• functions of trade unions - fight to get better pay, individual employee's disputes, fight to protect employees best interests at all times
• functions of ICTU - negotiate on behalf of Irish workers, give permission for all out strikes, settle any disputes between unions, provide training for unions and promote the trade union movements
• shop steward - spokesperson elected by other members to represent individual workplaces
• shop steward - try and recruit new members, represent members in union meetings and negotiations, keep members up to date and informed and inform head of union of employee concerns
