• discrimination - treating one person less favourably than another would have been treated in the same situation
• 9 grounds - gender, marital status, family status, age, disability, race, sexuality, religious beliefs , member of the travelling community
• illegal to discrimination when - hiring, promoting or training employees , in conditions of employment and in advertising for employees
• equal pay for equal work is a legal requirement
• positive discrimination - allowed to promote equal opportunities from the nine categories
