Muscle Contractions

    Cards (6)

    • Name the 2 types of muscle contractions.
      Isotonic and Isometric
    • Define isotonic.
Isotonic muscle contractions are those that result in movement.
    • Define isometric.
Isometric muscle contractions are where the muscles contract but there is no visible movement.
    • During isotonic muscle contractions the type of contraction is either concentric or eccentric.
    • Define a concentric muscle contraction.
Concentric muscle contraction is when the muscle shortens during the contraction e.g. bicep muscle contracting to lift a weight during bicep curls.
    • Define an eccentric muscle contraction.
Eccentric muscle contraction is when the muscle lengthens during the contraction e.g. bicep muscle contracting to lower the weight during bicep curls.
