Name the 2 types of muscle contractions.
Isotonic
and
Isometric
Define
isotonic.
Isotonic
muscle contractions are those that result in
movement.
Define isometric.
Isometric muscle contractions are where the muscles contract but there is no visible movement.
During
isotonic
muscle contractions the type of contraction is either
concentric
or
eccentric.
Define a concentric muscle contraction.
Concentric muscle contraction is when the muscle
shortens
during the
contraction
e.g.
bicep
muscle contracting to lift a weight during
bicep
curls.
Define an eccentric muscle contraction.
Eccentric muscle contraction is when the muscle lengthens during the contraction e.g. bicep muscle contracting to lower the weight during bicep curls.
