Research is done to support or contradict psychologist theories.
It is essential to learn how to carry out research to evaluate studies and theories.
Issues that may arise when evaluating methods:
Practical -> time, costs etc.
Ethical -> Informed consent, confidentiality, right to withdraw etc.
Theoretical -> Validity, reliability
Pilot Study:
Pilot Study = A small trial version of proposed studies to test their effectiveness and make improvements.
They are helpful in identifying potential issues early, which can then be rectified before committing to the length and expense of a full investigation.
Any part of the study could be tested (e.g. does the questionnaire measure what it is supposed to?)
