  • Research is done to support or contradict psychologist theories.
    It is essential to learn how to carry out research to evaluate studies and theories.
  • Issues that may arise when evaluating methods:
    • Practical -> time, costs etc.
    • Ethical -> Informed consent, confidentiality, right to withdraw etc.
    • Theoretical -> Validity, reliability
  • Pilot Study:
    Pilot Study = A small trial version of proposed studies to test their effectiveness and make improvements.
    • They are helpful in identifying potential issues early, which can then be rectified before committing to the length and expense of a full investigation.
    • Any part of the study could be tested (e.g. does the questionnaire measure what it is supposed to?)
