Shylock is a Jewish money-lender who suffers from anti-semitic abuse because many Jews practice in usury which is against Christian teachings . Bus rivalry increases with Antonio as he seeks revenge for the abuse and becomes blood-thirsty . He refuses to spare Antonio and ends up paying the ultimate price which is him being forced to become a Christian alongside with public humiliation and loosing his wealth .
