Isra and Miraj

• Isra and Miraj took place on 27th Rajab in the 10th year of prophethood.
• Isra means Journey by the night and Miraj means acension.
• Jibraeel descended and woke the prophet up and took him to Kaaba where he opened up the prophets chest, took out his heart, washed it with Zam Zam water and filled it with belief from a gold tray and jibraeel returned the heart to it's original place.
• Buraq took the prophet to Masjid ul Aqsa in Jerusalem.
• Buraq was a heavenly winged animal bigger than a donkey whose stride was as large as the limit of ones vision.
• The prophet offered 2 rakahs of namaz at masjid Al Aqsa
• After namaz, Gabriel brought 2 vessels, one with milk and on with wine, the prophet chose milk and drank from it.
• After Isra, the prophet mounted Buraq and then ascended to the lowest heaven.
• After reaching the lowest heaven, guard asked for the identity of jibraeel and the prophet and after being told that, he asked if the prophet had been sent for. After getting a yes, the guardian opened the door and said "welcome, his coming is good".
• After entering heaven, he saw a man sitting with a large group of people on both his sides and when he looked to his right, he laughed and when he looked to his left he wept. The prophet was told that this was prophet Adam and the people on his right were his descendants who were inhabitants of paradise and the ones on his left were his descendants who were the inhabitants of hell.
• One by one, the prophet was taken to all 7 heavens and on his way he met Isa, Yahiya, Yousuf, Idrees, Haroon, Musa and Ibrahim.
• After meeting the prophets, he was taken to Sidrat ul Muntaha, the lute tree, from where Jibraeel could no longer accompany him and the prophet went in the presence of Allah where the last verses of Surah Baqarah were revealed and the prophet was promised that his followers major sins would be forgiven as long as they did t commit shirk.
• The prophet was given 50 prayers made obligatory for the muslims and while the prophet was returning, prophet Musa told him that he should have the prayers reduced as his people would not offer these. The prophet went and had them reduced to 10, but when he returned, the Prophet Musa urged him to have the prayers reduced further. Again the prophet went and had them reduced to 5 when prophet Musa urged him to have the prayers further reduced but prophet Muhammad said he was too ashamed to face Allah anymore.
• On his way back, the prophet was shown paradise and hell and after he descended, he led all the prophets in Salah ul Quds.
• Since the 10th year of prophethood had been a year with such tragic events, Isra and Miraj strengthened the prophet spiritually and assured him that Allah had not abandoned him.It also prepared him for the second phase of his life.
