9 & 10 muscles

Cards (16)

  • 3 layers of CT that bind muscle fibers together are: epimysium, perimysium, and endomysium (biggest to smallest)
  • epimysium surrounds the ENTIRE muscle
  • perimysium is between fascicles (bundles)
  • endomysium is around individual muscle fibers
  • endomysium is outside sarcolemma
  • fascicle = bundle of muscle fibers
  • sarcoplasmic reticulum looks like webbing and surrounds the sarcomere
  • t-tubules = invagination of sarcolemma
  • sarcolemma = cell membrane
  • actin = thin filament
  • myosin = thick filament
  • the insertion is the more flexible end of the muscle that is attached to a movable bone
  • tendons allow your body to move and give you flexibility while aponeuroses give your body strength and stability
  • one T-tubule with two terminal cisternae on both sides of the tubule forms a triad
  • a motor unit is a neuron that stimulates muscle cells to contract
  • large motor units generate more force and are therefore fatigued easier while small motor units are beneficial in sustaining muscle contraction
