    • isn’t a one off event but a process of 4 stages
    Intrapsychic phase - one person feels dissatisfaction due to costs but do not inform partner
    Dyadic Phase - unhappy partner airs feelings and may engage discussion (may seek couples counselling)
    Social Phase - couple publicly air difficulties with others and discuss division of property

    Phase - relationship is over, each partner minimises their role in the breakdown to make themselves look better

    p- model is incomplete e- Rollie and Duck e- added a 5th phase where exs use what they’ve learnt to prepare for future relationships l- suggesting we try to learn from mistakes on prep as suggested by the 5th stage

    e- This is because to useful in counselling as cognitive therapy can be used to focus on private thoughts or practices l- so can be useful for understanding relationships
