Allele
- A version of a gene
Dominant
- Describes an allele that is always expressed. Represented by a capital letter
Recessive
- Describes an allele that is only expressed in the absence of a dominant allele. Represented by a small letter
Genotype
- An organism’s genetic composition. Describes all alleles
Non-Mendelian
means characteristics that don’t follow the standard dominant and recessive rules established by Mendel
Co-dominance
is where both dominant alleles are expressed leading to a phenotype that is neither dominant or recessive.
