• Social Control

  persuading or forcing people to conform to a society’s norms and values, those who don’t conform are seen as ‘deviant’ and are given sanctions to stop the behaviour compared to positive sanctions given to those who conform
• Formal social control

  written rules and sanctions e.g. laws and regulations
• Informal social control

   unwritten rules & sanctions e.g. through the family & peers
• Sanctions given by the family

  grounding or raised allowance
• Sanctions given by education

  merit awards or detentions
• Sanctions given by peers

  invited out or excluded
