  • There are three Theories of Truth; Correspondence Theory, Coherence Theory, and Pragmatic Theory.
  • Correspondence Theory - The truth or falsity of a statement is determined only by how it relates to the world and whether it accurately describes that world.
    1. The sky is blue.
    2. Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world.
    3. Pigs have wings.

  • Coherence Theory - A statement is true if it coheres or fits logically with other beliefs or propositions within a comprehensive and internally consistent system of thought.
    1. All triangles have three sides, and the sum of their interior angles is always 180 degrees.
    2. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west.

  • Pragmatic Theory - The truth of a statement lies in its practical consequences or its usefulness in guiding action.
    1. Exercise improves overall health.
    2. Using renewable energy sources help mitigate climate change.
    3. Drinking bleach cures all diseases.
