• Syrias population has shrunk with over 5-6 million refugees moving to safer countries
• Once vibrant cities such as Aleppo are like ghost towns due to the volume of people moving away
• Much of Syrias educated elite population (those with money and connections) have fled their home in search of safety. This is known as "brain drain" meaning there is a lack of doctors, nurses and teachers
• There is a lack of doctors and nurses (due to "brain drain") to look after the injured and the weak, meaning the sick and wounded can go untreated, causing Syrias life expectancy to drop
• The lack of teachers (due to "brain drain") and lack of government funding on education means that many children don't go to school and literacy rates are likely to drop
• Law enforcement in the donor country (Syria) is poor and has problems with corruption meaning that crime rates are high (e.g. rape)
• There are fewer people to grow and tend to crops in donor country do there is a lack of sufficient food and clean water, especially in rural areas which affects families that haven't left the country
