Inheritance

• A gene is a length of DNA that codes for a particular characteristic
• A chromosome is a threadlike strand of DNA, of which humans have 23 pairs
• DNA - double helix structure that contains the genetic information
• an allele is a particular form of gene
• a gamete is a sex cell
• DNA is a molecule that contains information, it tells a cell how to build a protein. Although we have the same genes, we all have different versions (Allele’s)
• there are four types of nucleotide - adenine, thymine, cytosine and guanine (ATGC)
