  • Behavioural characteristics: Activity levels, Disruption to sleep and eating behaviours and aggression + self harm
  • Depressives may have reduced-energy and thus dispay lower activity levels, this makes them withdraw from everyday activities. Some people suffer from the opposite and struggle to relax and may pace up + dow (Psychomotor agitation)
  • Depression is also associated with changes to sleeping and eating behaviours, some individuals have reduced sleep (insomnia) or increased sleep (Hyper insomnia) or show an increased or decreased appetite, leading to weight gain or loss
  • People with depression are often irritable, verbally/physically aggressive, which often has knock-on effects to aspects of life (e.g losing their job)> Depression can lead to physical aggression against one's self, increasing the likelihood of self-harm and suicide attempts
