  • Trainspotting's music often is commentary on scenes and holds narrative importance rather than just being accompaniment. E.g Lust for Life by Iggy Pop (an idol of Tommy's) augments Renton's "Choose Life" monologue. Another example being Perfect Day, which counterpoints Renton's far from perfect overdose.
  • Renton's voiceover narration has cynical and resigned delivery, which can be read as capturing the "exhaustion" of genX.
  • The reoccurring tune of Vanilla Fudge's "Season of the witch" and Soft Cells' "Tainted Love" are also direct commentary on Sightseers narrative.
  • When Jerusalem is narrated by John Hunt, its a pivotal point for Tina since she is now complicit in the killing spree. When the final word of the poem is replaced by the walkers head crunching, it is quite shocking, but it soon disappears after Chris delivers his line of "report that to the national trust", acting as an example of the film's dark humour
