    • Development is influenced by a wide range of environmental factors: parents, siblings, teachers, community, wider society and culture in which an individual lives
    • his theory is often presented as a diagram
    • microsystem- the most influential level- direct contact and influence on the individual/ immediate family and home environment
    • meosystem- the different relationships between the elements of the mictosystem
    • exosystem- one step beyond the meo system but would have an immediate impact on the child e.g. the parents workplace/ media influence
    • macrosystem- economic and cultural environment surrounding the exosystem
    • chronosystem- the history surrounding environments and traditions
    • practitioners must recognise they are apart of the childs microsystem
    • Act as a positive role model
    • develop positive relationships within the microsystem
