• Balanced forces


  Forces that are of opposite directions and equal in magnitude, making an object at rest (no motion)
• Balanced forces

  • Magnitude - amount of force exerted
  • Direction - Where the force is moving towards
• Unbalanced forces


  Forces that are in opposite direction and unequal in magnitude, causing motion
• Net force/Resultant force


  The sum of the existing forces that acts on an object
• If the net force is 0


  The forces are balanced, no movement or change in velocity
• If the net force is greater than 0


  There's a greater amount of force, so expect a change in motion and velocity of an object
• Algebraic signs


  Positive sign for forces exerted to the right, negative sign for forces exerted to the left
• Vertical forces


  Positive sign for forces exerted upwards, negative sign for forces exerted downwards
