T3 Nursing Care During Labor and Delivery

• How often should a patient be voiding?

  At least every 2 hours.
• What is indicated if the patient is on bedrest for voiding?

  Bedpan or catheterization.
• What is the most optimal position for uteroplacental and renal blood flow?

  Left lateral position.
• What do doulas do for supportive care during labor and birth?

  Physical and emotional support.
• Stages of labor:

  1. Uterine contractions, dilation and effacement
  2. Dilation and effacement, birth of baby
  3. Birth of baby, expulsion of placenta
