Education is the process of giving and receiving knowledge, generally associated in contemporary (modern) society with schools and universities.

Norms and values are learnt through subjects like PSHE (personal, social and health education) and citizenship. Different subjects will teach you different norms and values.

Why does every have to have different skills...
For the individual - not everyone is able to have the same skills. Individuals can be a functioning member of society.
For society - it allows society to function effectively. All jobs can then be filled in society.
How does role allocation work?
Jobs are given mainly based on their educational qualifications and other skills and talents more than wealth, status and power.
Meritocracy - you work hard you will achieve - success is based on hard work. A social system that rewards hard work instead of inherited status.
Why do functionalists think meritocracy is fair?
It is fair because everyone has a chance of success as people are able to succeed through their own efforts.
