  • Schools play a role in teaching the norms and values of society - secondary socialisation.

  • How does role allocation work?
Jobs are given mainly based on their educational qualifications and other skills and talents more than wealth, status and power.
  • Meritocracy - you work hard you will achieve - success is based on hard work. A social system that rewards hard work instead of inherited status.
  • Why do functionalists think meritocracy is fair?

It is fair because everyone has a chance of success as people are able to succeed through their own efforts.
