• Brazil provides labour = labour migrants send remittances back
• Brazil is a former colony of Portugal (15th century) which started their long-standing mutual relationship; in the 19th century, there was a large Portuguese migration to Brazil
• Brazil migrants have special status in Portugal and vice versa (same rights, right to identity card)
• Both speak Portuguese = makes it easier for migrants to integrate into eachothers communities
• Portugal has higher wages for skilled workers (Remittances —> Brazil) + can be a gateway to Europe
