bacteria can become resistant to antibiotics which means only the non-reistant strains of bacteria will be killed. the resistant bacteria will survive and reproduce and the population of the resistant strain wull increase and could cause serious infection that cannot be treated by antibiotics
to slow down the rate of development of resistant strains, its important for doctors to avoid over pescribiingantibiotics. so you wont get them for a sore threat only for something more serious. it is also important you finish the course of antibiotics and dont just sstop once you feel better
many drugs originally came from plants
plants produce a variety of chemicals to defend themselves against pests and paathogens which some chemicals can be used as drugs to treat human diseases or relieve symptons
some drugs were extracted from microorganisms
drugs are tested on human cells and tissues and then tested on live animals (efficienecy) and then tested on human volunteers (check for side effects)
in a clinical trial
clinical trials are blind so the patient doesn't know if they have recieved the drug or not (placebo effect)
placebo effect
when the patient expects the treatment to work abd so feels better even though the treatment hasnt done anything
