Engine Instruments – Cylinder Head Temperature
• Measures the temperature at one or more of the cylinder heads, this is at the top of the cylinder.
• This can be used to warn of over-heating, pre-ignition, and detonation.
- Pre-ignition – ignition of fuel-air mixture prior to the spark plug firing.
- Detonation – spontaneous combustion of the remaining fuel-air mixture in the chamber after normal combustion by the spark plugs.
