T-cells and cell mediated response

• non-specific response is immediate and the same for all pathogens
• specific immune response happens after non-specific and is an attack aimed at a particular pathogen
• what is cell mediated response?

  involves specialised white blood cells called T-lymphocytes which target inside and outside cells
• There are three types of T lymphocytes:

  • T helper - activate b cells
  • T killer - destroy any cells that have been infected with the pathogen
  • T memory - provide rapid response when reinfected
  • cytotoxic T cell - eliminates substances the immune system deems as harmful
