Geotropism

• Shoots are negatively geotropic and grow away from gravity

  
• Roots are positively geotropic and grow towards gravity

  
• Auxins are produced in the tip of the stem and the roots

  
• In roots and stems auxins are attracted to gravity and sink to the lower region
• Auxins in roots INHIBIT cell elongation therefore the cells DO NOT elongate on the underside of the root

  
• In the stem the auxins stimulate cell elongation causing the stem to bend upwards.
