  • A rapid is a section of a river where water flows very fast over resistant rocks
  • They can be formed when water flows over alternating areas of resistant and less resistant rocks.
  • The less resistant rocks (soft rocks) are eroded more quickly causing the bed to become uneven.
  • The area of resistant (hard rocks) that sticks out may cause waterflowing over to 'jump' forming rapids. (Can lead to waterfalls)
