A rapid is a section of a river where water flows very fast over resistant rocks
They can be formed when water flows over alternating areas of resistant and less resistant rocks.
The less resistant rocks (soft rocks) are eroded more quickly causing the bed to become uneven.
The area of resistant (hard rocks) that sticks out may cause waterflowing over to 'jump' forming rapids. (Can lead to waterfalls)
