A
rapid
is a section of a river where water flows very fast over
resistant
rocks
They can be formed when
water
flows over
alternating
areas of
resistant
and
less
resistant
rocks.
The less resistant rocks (
soft
rocks) are eroded more
quickly
causing the bed to become uneven.
The area of resistant (
hard rocks
) that sticks out may cause
waterflowing
over to 'jump' forming rapids. (Can lead to waterfalls)
