Morality

Cards (21)

  • Friends can influence your understanding of what is right and wrong because as you grow your mixup with different people and they may uphold different religious believes to help them to be a moral person. For example a young girl has a friend who is Jewish she came to seek advice from her as she was in trouble as she lied to her parents. Her friend advises her to be truthful as one of the 10 Commandments says thou shall not lie. In conclusion I believe that our friends really shape our attitude as a person and they help you become morally mature.
  • The remarkable stage of making a moral decision is to seek advice, this can be from family members, friends and religious leaders as it can help you make a decision. seeking advise is notable in moral decision-making as it gives you more insight on the situation and it can also be useful as the people you seek advice from could be morally mature and most likely they could have experienced the situation you are seeking advice for.
  • Another stage that is involved when a person is making the more decision is prayer and time to reflect. This is significant as religious people pray to the divine; Christians pray to God when making important decisions. In my opinion I think the time to reflect and pray is the most important stage of moral decision-making as it gives you an open space to be in a pensive mood and it‘s also important as believers/Christians believe that throuhgh struggles and confusion that they connect with God and he instructs them on what to do a .
    • Poverty is a moral issue as it denies people from their basic human rights such as access to clean water education and healthcare I think everyone deserves a good life without suffering.

  • Morality is a set of guidelines that helps you understand the difference between right and wrong morality comprises of being able to differentiate moral behaviour and immoral behaviour. Moral behaviour is good actions was wrong and bad actions are immoral.
  • An informed decision is a choice made by an individual after they have thought it through and analysed and considered the potential consequences.
  • Making a moral decision (between right and wrong) use the LISTEN process:
L: List the facts (what information do you know).
I: Imagine the consequences (positive and negative for you and others).
S: Seek guidance, can family, friends, religion, media or the law help you make a decision.
T: Time to reflect: Reflect on your choices and find out about your options
E: Examine your conscience, inner voice or gut feeling about what's right or wrong. Will you be at peace or feel guilty with each decision.
N: Now time to decide/make your decision.
  • understanding the connection between actions and consequences influences the behaviour of a person trying to live a morally good life, because it teaches them that their actions have an effect on others. This would encourage a person to behave in a thoughtful kind and considerate way when making choices, if they proceed like this they would avoid doing immoral things that would negatively impact others and they would do what is right as they would consider the consequences prior to when they are making their decisions.
  • Reading scripture helps in making a moral decision for example in Matthew in the Bible in the New Testament It states that blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy. this encourages us to forgive others and not pursue Revenge. The last step is considering the consequences you need to consider if affects anyone in a negative way if so restrain from it (For example Christians want to be like Jesus who was loving and kind to others through his actions)
