  • The problem of evil can be regarded as an 'inconsistent triad'- in other words, 3 ideas but only 2 of them can be true 
  • The inconsistent triad says that God loves us and wants to stop evil and suffering but he can't as he doesn't have enough power or God has the power to stop evil and suffering but he doesn't love us
  • God made us in his image and likeness and therefore giving us freewill. If god was controlling every aspect of our life then it would mean that we were not truly human.
  • A theodicy is a defence for God
  • The sin Eve did was called 'The original sin.' 
  • St Augustine's theodicy is that God did not create evil and suffering. This is because God gave Adam and Eve free will so it was their choice to eat the fruit knowing it was not good therefore going against God
