Diabetes is a chronic disease either when the pancreas doesn't produce enough insulin, or the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces.
Some of the signs of diabetes include:
Increased
thirst
Increased
urination
Increased
hunger
Patches
of
dark
skin
Yeast
infection
Type 1 diabetes is when the
immune system
attacks the cells responsible for making
insulin.
Type 2 diabetes is when the
pancreas
makes less
insulin
and the body becomes resistant to it.
2 kinds of diabetes include
prediabetes
and
gestational
diabetes.
Prediabetes is when the
blood sugar
levels are high but not high enough to be considered as
diabetes mellitus.
Gestational
diabetes is a diabetes you can get when pregnant due to hormonal changes so the body can't process
sugar
efficiently.
Causes of high blood sugar levels include:
Eating
too much
Lack of
exercise
Dehydration
Missing
dose
of diabetes medication
4.0
to
5.4
mmol/L is the normal blood sugar level. It reaches up to 7.8 mmol/L 2 hours after eating.
People with diabetes have
4
to
7
mmol/L before eating and up to 9 mmol/L for type 1 and 8.5 mmol/L for type 2.
People with diabetes test their
blood sugar
levels before
meals
and bedtime and after treating low blood sugar.
Exercising
makes the body more
sensitive
to insulin.
Physical activity helps control
blood sugar levels
, and reduce risk of
heart disease
and nerve damage.
