  • In resting state - neuron is positive outside & negative inside
  • Neuron is stimulated by temperature, chemical changes, pressure - permeability of membrane to Na inc.
  • Permeability causes Na to go inside neuron causing depolarization that goes down the axon resulting in start of an Action Potential
  • -In unmyelinated axons: AP goes straight along membrane
    -In myelinated axons: there are interruptions (nodes of Ranvier) that allow AP to jump along the cell - they are faster
