Too Low Body Temperature

• Body temperature too low; Since activity will fall and exergonic reactions (respiration) releasing thermal energy will be slower and less heat released, body keeps cooling and reactions too slow to support life (hypothermia and death)
• Frostbites affect on tissues

  • Freezing of peripheral tissues/extremities
  • Frostbitten area is painless/numb
  • Water in tissues/cells freezes and Ice kills tissues and cells
  • Gangrene may occur (when tissues have thawed)
  • Ice crystals can damage cell membrane
  • Ice formation causes dehydration
